History & Heritage
Kasbah Tamadot has its roots in the 1920s. Initially designed as the residence of the local governor, it is nestled in the foothills of the Atlas Mountains.
This residential origin still defines its character today. The property retains the appearance of a Moroccan house, offering a more intimate atmosphere than that of a large transient establishment.
In 1998, Sir Richard Branson acquired the property, ushering it into a new phase while maintaining its original spirit.
A significant renovation preceded its opening as a hotel in 2005. This transformation built upon the existing structure rather than erasing it, preserving the atmosphere of the home.
The recent history of the estate is also intertwined with that of its region. In September 2023, a major earthquake struck the surrounding area, with its epicentre very close to the hotel.
This context underscores the deep-rooted connection of the kasbah to its territory. Here, heritage is not solely about architecture or decor, but about a continuity between a home, a landscape, and local memory.
