When to go
Dry season: November to April (28-30°C, calm sea, near-guaranteed sun). Rainy season: May to October (short but intense showers, hotel rates 20-30% lower, ideal for diving — manta rays concentrated in Hanifaru Bay June-November).
How to get there
Flight Paris CDG → Malé MLE direct (10h, Air France, or via Doha/Dubai with Qatar/Emirates). Resort transfer by seaplane (Trans Maldivian Airways or Manta Air, 30-50 min per atoll) — included in the package. For remote atolls (Noonu, Baa), sometimes domestic flight + speedboat.
Currency and payment
Maldivian rufiyaa (MVR) in theory, USD in practice everywhere in resorts. Credit cards accepted everywhere. Tips: 5-10% additional in upmarket restaurants, $5-10 per day for personal butler (placed in an envelope at the end of the stay).
Visa and formalities
30-day tourist visa issued free on arrival for EU/Switzerland/Canada nationals. Passport valid 6 months after return. No mandatory vaccine. PADI diving licence useful but Open Water introduction course offered in all resorts.
Daily life
The Maldives are an Islamic republic — no alcohol outside resorts (but unlimited inside), no pork. Clothing: t-shirt and shorts suffice all day, no dress code in resort restaurants. Wifi included everywhere (often Starlink satellite fibre in 2026).

Count €800-1,500/night/villa for a classic 5★ (Four Seasons, One&Only), €1,500-3,500/night for ultra-luxury (Cheval Blanc Randheli, Velaa, Soneva Jani). Rates exclude seaplane transfers (€300-700 round trip per person per atoll) and taxes (16% TGST + $12/day Green Tax).
Which atoll to choose for a first stay?
North Malé Atoll for proximity (speedboat transfer 30-45 min, cheaper than seaplane) — One&Only Reethi Rah, Four Seasons Kuda Huraa. Baa Atoll for UNESCO reserve and manta rays — Anantara Kihavah, Four Seasons Landaa Giraavaru. Noonu Atoll for top of the top — Cheval Blanc, Velaa, Soneva Jani.
Overwater villa or beach villa?
Overwater villa: direct lagoon access via private staircase, intimacy, romance (ideal honeymoon). Beach villa: larger surface, garden/private pool, ideal family. Our concierge can propose the "beach + overwater combination" (3 nights beach + 4 nights overwater) on resorts that accept (Four Seasons, COMO).
Are children accepted in the Maldives?
Yes in the majority of resorts. Notable: Cheval Blanc Randheli accepts children of all ages, Soneva Jani and Soneva Fushi have renowned kids clubs, Four Seasons and One&Only are family-friendly. Only a few resorts (W Maldives, Lily Beach Resort) are adults-only — specify at booking.
How many days minimum for a stay?
7 days on site minimum (10-14 ideal). Given the long flight and jet lag (4h30 difference), a < 7-day stay is suboptimal. The Maldives are savoured in slow-living — that's the destination's very identity.
Are your Maldives rates more expensive than booking direct?
No — net Amadeus GDS rates in USD or EUR, identical to the resort's public published rate. Our concierge can sometimes negotiate additional perks (private seaplane transfers, sandbank dinner included) per resort and stay duration.
