When to go

New York: spring (April-June) and autumn (September-October). Avoid July-August (humid heat). Aspen: skiing mid-December to late March + July-August for culture. Napa: Sept-October (harvests), April-May (spring). Hawaii: year-round (high season December-March).

How to get there

Direct flights Paris CDG to New York JFK/EWR (8h, Air France, Delta, United), Los Angeles LAX (10h30). Domestic connection for Aspen (via Denver), Napa (via San Francisco), Hawaii (via Los Angeles). Our concierge organises domestic flights and transfers.

Currency and payment

US dollar (USD), €1 ≈ $1.07 in spring 2026. Credit cards accepted everywhere. MANDATORY tipping — 18-22% restaurant, $5-10/night for housekeeping, $2-5 for porter. Our concierge can indicate the convention details on arrival.

Visa and formalities

ESTA mandatory for EU/Switzerland nationals — electronic authorisation, $21 USD, valid 2 years, requested online 7-14 days before departure. Valid passport. International driving licence strongly recommended (French accepted for short stays). Right-hand driving, excellent interstate highways.

Language

English. Spanish current in California and major urban centres. French rare in tourist areas but well represented in 5★ hotels (multilingual concierges).

How many days minimum for a USA stay?

10-14 days minimum given the long flight and jet lag (6-9h difference per coast). Classic itinerary: New York 4 nights + Napa Valley 3 nights + San Francisco 2 nights. For a multi-region stay, 14-21 days ideal.

Tipping in the USA — how much?

Strict convention: 18-22% on the restaurant bill (below = bad reputation), $5-10 per night for housekeeping, $2-5 for porter, 20% for Uber/taxi drivers. Tipping never included — the displayed price is before tax + service.

Aspen or Vail — which choice for skiing?

Aspen for glamour (downtown atmosphere, gastronomy, cultural events), Vail for pure skiing (larger area, 5,289 acres, more beginner and intermediate slopes). The Little Nell (Aspen) is the iconic address — no equivalent at Vail (Sebastian Vail is the only 5★).

Are your USA rates more expensive than booking direct?

No — net Amadeus GDS rates in USD, identical to the hotel's public published rate. Beware of American 'resort fees' ($15-50/night, mandatory, not included in the Amadeus rate — always detailed on our page). Our concierge can negotiate resort fee removal on some hotels for stays > 5 nights.

Do my Marriott Bonvoy points work on St Regis Aspen and St Regis New York?
