When to go

November to March: dry season, 26-30°C, clear sky. April: very hot (35°C+ Bangkok). May to October: rainy season (tropical showers, hotels at reduced rate). December-February: optimal period (but Christmas/New Year rush in Phuket and Samui).

How to get there

Flights Paris CDG to Bangkok BKK (11h, Air France, Thai Airways). Domestic flights Bangkok-Phuket (1h, Bangkok Airways), Bangkok-Koh Samui (1h, Bangkok Airways only, monopoly), Bangkok-Chiang Mai (1h). Our concierge organises all inter-island transfers.

Currency and payment

Thai baht (THB), €1 ≈ 40 THB in spring 2026. Credit cards accepted everywhere in 5★ hotels and upmarket restaurants. Cash appreciated for markets and taxis. Tips: 10% in upmarket restaurants, 50-100 THB for porters and drivers.

Visa and formalities

Electronic visa TR15 now mandatory for EU/Switzerland nationals for stays ≤ 30 days — free, requested online on Thai portal. Passport valid 6 months. International driving licence (French accepted for short stays).

Language

Thai (official). English well spoken in 5★ hotels and tourist areas. French rare. A few appreciated Thai words (sawasdee = hello, khob khun = thank you).

Phuket or Koh Samui — which choice?

Phuket: more accessible (direct flight from Europe in season), greater address diversity (Aman, Trisara, Banyan Tree), Similan diving excursion. Koh Samui: more intimate, quieter, ideal for couples seeking pure relaxation. Six Senses Samui is the most emblematic address.

Is the Thai visa paid?

No — the electronic TR15 visa (stays ≤ 30 days) is free, to be requested online 7-14 days before departure. No queue on arrival for travellers who applied beforehand.
