History & Heritage
In Mykonos, Kalesma is part of a recent narrative. The address opened in 2021, offering a contemporary interpretation of island living.
However, its story is woven into a broader continuum. A legendary hotel, established in 1923, is currently undergoing renovation, serving as an ancient landmark in dialogue with the present.
This notion of transmission is also reflected in the architectural reinterpretation. The entire complex has been thoughtfully redesigned by Michele De Lucchi, with a focus on revelation rather than disruption.
The project highlights Renaissance architecture, a baroque portal, and a double colonnade. This colonnade opens onto a 3,000 m² piazza, conceived as a space for breathing and perspective.
Here, heritage is not merely decorative. It manifests in the way lines, thresholds, and volumes are revealed without being fixed.
Balancing hotel memory with an architect's vision, Kalesma thus crafts a story in motion. A youthful address, yet already mindful of its predecessors and what it conveys.
Architecture & Design
In Mykonos, Kalesma was entirely reimagined in 2021 by Michele De Lucchi. The architectural gesture seeks less to impress and more to accurately interpret the volumes.
The intervention reveals a restrained Renaissance style, evident in the arrangement of lines and the balance of proportions. Nothing appears ostentatious; everything rests on the clarity of composition.
The baroque portal introduces a more theatrical nuance. It provides an immediate presence to the journey, without disrupting the overall harmony. This entrance asserts a threshold, almost a staging.
The double colonnade continues this language with great sobriety. It guides the gaze and opens the perspective towards a 3,000 m² piazza. The space breathes, organises itself, and then unfolds with a calm obviousness.
This approach gives the hotel an architecture of rhythm and breath. Monumentality exists, yet it remains controlled. Michele De Lucchi prioritises revealing a vocabulary that was already present, rather than showcasing an author's demonstration.
Thus, the ensemble creates a place where the memory of forms converses with a very contemporary presence. An architecture conceived as a precise and enduring frame.
The Experience of Staying
In residence, the architecture sets the tone above all else. Kalesma was entirely reimagined in 2021 by Michele De Lucchi.
The gesture does not seek effect. It reveals a Renaissance composition, discernible in its proportions, axes, and the way it organises space.
The gaze first rests on the baroque portal. It introduces a more theatrical sequence without disrupting the overall balance.
Then, the double colonnade opens the perspective. It accompanies each step and leads towards a 3,000 m² piazza, conceived as an open-air heart.
This staging remains measured. It establishes a clear relationship between solids, voids, and circulation, with an almost ceremonial elegance.
Here, the experience of staying unfolds through a slow reading of forms. The Renaissance brings its rigour, the baroque its tension, and the piazza its breath.
One inhabits a place designed as a journey. Each threshold, alignment, and opening contributes to a sensation of order and amplitude.
Wellness & Spa
The Kalesma Spa spans 480 m², designed to slow the pace and restore a broader breath. The entire space prioritises a clear reading of areas and a serene atmosphere.
The hammam extends this interlude in enveloping warmth, conducive to muscle relaxation and inner calm. The sauna offers a drier, sharper experience, often sought after a day spent in the wind and sun.
A pool complements the ensemble, introducing a more fluid relationship with the body and time, oscillating between silent relaxation and reactivation.
Here, wellness is organised around simple gestures and essential equipment. There is nothing ostentatious in spirit, only well-considered spaces designed to instill a sense of retreat, comfort, and continuity. The Spa thus stands as a dedicated place of pause, where one comes as much to recuperate as to regain a sense of balance.
Service & Team
At Kalesma, the service prioritises fluidity and discretion. From the moment of arrival, the transfer from the airport or port simplifies travel. The parking facilities complement this logistics with equal ease.
The concierge service enhances the stay with attentive presence. It takes care of practical details, fine-tunes the rhythm of the days, and allows everyone their freedom. This availability lends the stay a relaxed atmosphere, free from unnecessary formality.
The butler service adds a more personal dimension. It establishes a direct, precise, almost silent relationship, where requests are accommodated without encroaching on one’s time. The attention is evident in the execution, rather than in ostentation.
The 24-hour room service extends this sense of continuity. A late schedule, an early wake-up, a simple craving between two moments of the day—everything remains possible without constraint.
Pets are also welcome, which transforms the nature of the stay for those travelling with them. This choice speaks to the spirit of the establishment. A luxury designed to adapt, rather than impose its framework.
