A word from the Concierge

Conrad Los Angeles through the Concierge's eyes

Frank Gehry tower at the heart of The Grand LA: 305 rooms facing the Walt Disney Concert Hall, San Laurel and Agua Viva by José Andrés, rooftop pool and a 650 sq m spa.

The Concierge

Through the doors of Conrad Los Angeles, you enter The Grand LA’s Frank Gehry tower, opened in 2022 on Grand Avenue. The 10th-floor lobby welcomes arrivals level with the Music Center auditoriums, facing the steel curves of the Walt Disney Concert Hall.

Three hundred and five rooms and suites unfold floor-to-ceiling windows, sliding barn doors and L-shaped sofas. The concierge anticipates without intruding: a table at José Andrés, a timed ticket for The Broad, a transfer from LAX. That is the essence of a Downtown stay: culture along Grand Avenue, San Laurel and Agua Viva for dining, the rooftop pool and the 650 sq m spa to catch your breath above the city.

Architecture — undulating steel & the 10th-floor lobby

Arrivals happen on the 10th floor, level with the Music Center auditoriums: the lobby opens onto lounges, a public art gallery and the hotel restaurants.

The gallery stages local artists — Casper Brindle’s five Light Glyphs, which shift colour through the day, and Mimi Jung’s neon-yellow woven sculpture, between check-in and the elevators.

The 305 rooms across 28 floors play with floor-to-ceiling windows, barn-style sliding doors and L-shaped sofas that maximise each volume.

The experience — a resort in the heart of Downtown

Two José Andrés restaurants, two cocktail bars, a rooftop outdoor pool, a 650 sq m spa, a fitness room and an art gallery give the Conrad the feel of a resort planted in the Los Angeles urban jungle.

The concierge coordinates concert tickets, transfers from LAX or Burbank, a house car for short trips and San Laurel reservations. Twenty-four-hour room service and valet extend the experience.

You come here to inhabit Downtown’s cultural district without ever crossing the city — culture, dining and calm in a single building.

Rooms & suites — from King to Presidential Suite

Three hundred and five rooms and suites, including Premium View Kings facing the Walt Disney Concert Hall, Studio Lofts, corner suites and Presidential Suites with panoramic terraces.

West-facing categories between the 12th and 15th floor offer the clearest view of Gehry’s hall — the criterion I check first for a first stay. Suites unfold a living room, dining area and deep soaking tub.

Floor-to-ceiling windows, double glazing that holds the calm despite Downtown, included Wi-Fi and large flat-screens: the concierge notes the preferred aspect at booking.

History — The Grand LA and the Gehry signature (2022)

Conrad Los Angeles opened in 2022 within The Grand LA, Frank Gehry’s development on Grand Avenue, mirroring the Walt Disney Concert Hall the architect had delivered twenty years earlier.

The tower gathers hotel, residences, retail and public plazas at the heart of Downtown’s cultural district. The first Conrad address in Los Angeles, it sets Hilton’s luxury brand into the Grand Avenue corridor, between The Broad, MOCA and the Music Center.

The architectural stance — undulating steel facades, a lobby perched on the 10th floor — places the hotel in dialogue with the concert hall it faces.

The Concierge’s Tip

My tip: for a first stay, ask for a west-facing room between the 12th and 15th floor — the view onto the Walt Disney Concert Hall’s steel curves is clearest there, and the double glazing holds the calm despite Downtown. The ritual I recommend: breakfast at San Laurel facing the Concert Hall, a few laps in the rooftop pool late morning, then a cocktail at The Beaudry Room before the show across the street. Share your arrival time — the house car and valet are arranged ahead.
